University Access – “Selectividad” Preparation
Datoer og Priser 2008
The “Selectividad” is the competitive entry examination that an overseas student must pass if they want to study for an undergraduate degree at university in Spain.
The examination takes place in June and again, for those who failed first time, in September.
The examination is at about the same level as the other European examinations taken immediately prior to university, such as A-levels, Abitur, Baccalaureat etc. We prepare students for the Humanities Selectividad and the students are examined in their knowledge of Spanish culture and history within a European and world-wide context.
A high level of Spanish is essential. A knowledge of one of the following European languages is also required: English, German, Italian, French or Portuguese. You must also have completed your high school career in your own country with a reasonable result.
Selectividad Preparation Course
This begins in January and for the first 10 weeks you follow the Hispanic Studies programme but with 3 special tutorials per week to give you guidance in the extra work you should be doing. During the subsequent 12 weeks you follow an intensive and specific Examination preparation course where the teaching will focus on the requirements of the examination.
We prepare our students specifically in the following subjects:
- Advanced Spanish
- Contemporary history
- History of Art
- Spanish Literature
The Selectividad is, of course, a challenging examination for an overseas student. However it is by no means impossible and if a good student is prepared to dedicate him/herself to the work there should be a reasonable chance of success.
Students who pass the Selectividad then have the right to study at university in Spain. An undergraduate degree course is usually for 5 years and you apply to your preferred universities after passing the Selectividad.
