Panoramic view of Malaga

Malaga, situated on the southern coast of Spain, is an increasingly popular choice as a place to study Spanish.

High speed train to MalagaIt is an historic Mediterranean city with an interesting architectural heritage and flourishing cultural tradition.

The Alcazaba and Roman amphitheatre in MalagaDespite its connection to the Costa de Sol, Malaga is not a tourist city. The people you will meet in Malaga are Spaniards, enjoying their beaches, bars and restaurants, at their prices!

With its international airport and modern motorway network Malaga is easy to get to and perfectly located for visiting other cities of Andalucía such as Granada, Sevilla, Cádiz, Nerja, etc. and even a weekend escape into Africa!

Culture

Picasso and MalagaArt: As the birthplace of Picasso, Malaga now houses the Picasso Gallery as well as several other important exhibitions of modern and traditional art.

Flamenco: Andalucía is the home of Flamenco. Go to a show or find it in the streets and bars of Malaga. We teach Flamenco (Spanish & Flamenco) and have Flamenco shows (Activities) in the school.

Other music: Opera and orchestral concerts in the Cervantes Theatre, The cathedral at Malagarock and pop concerts in the Bull Ring and other venues.

History

Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs have all left their traces in Malaga and Andalucía.

Just in the city of Malaga you will be able to see:
The Roman amphitheatre at Malaga

  • The Alcazaba and Castillo de Gibralfaro: a large Moorish palace and castle stretching from the city centre to a hill top giving fabulous views over Malaga
  • The Roman amphitheatre
  • A huge Christian cathedral, and hundreds of churches
  • The Arabic/Moorish architectural influence is found throughout the historic centre's narrow streets

Mediterranean lifestyle at MalagaLifestyle

In Malaga you will find a Mediterranean lifestyle. Andalucians live life to the full making the most of their beaches, climate and music.

The beach front restaurants and the many tapas bars and clubs to be found in the city are full of friendly local people, making it easy to meet Spaniards.

Tapas bars and chiringuitos at MalagaFood

Hundreds of wine bars, tapas bars and "chiringuitos" (simple fish restaurants) help to retain Malaga’s totally Spanish atmosphere and flavour – all at Spanish prices!

Andalucia is famous in particular for its fish and seafood, olives and olive oil, almonds and the renowned "Mediterranean diet" in general.

¡Buen provecho!

Mediterranean climate at MalagaClimate

The Mediterranean climate of hot (but not too hot!) summers and mild, fairly dry winters, provides a perfect environment for relaxation and study.

Sunbathing by the side of our pool at Malaca InstitutoIn the summer (July, August and September) the temperature is generally in the upper 20s and lower 30s. It rarely, if ever, goes above 35ºC.

Malaga is famous for having one of the best climates in Europe and our students can be seen sunbathing by the side of our pool during most of the year.

Countryside

Malaga has a stunning combination of Mediterranean beaches and mountains.

The beaches are famous but not everyone knows that within half an hour by car, from the city centre, you can be walking on trails in the foothills of the mountains.
