HOST FAMILY ACCOMMODATION

For students wanting to experience a typical Spanish way of life, this can be the best option. It is especially suitable for younger students on our Young Adult courses.

A member of staff always visits our host families to make sure they are appropriate. A “host family” will probably not be a “nuclear” family of 2 parents and 2 children. It is more likely that the children have grown up and left home and it could be a single person. The accommodation may be in an independent house but is more likely to be in a block of flats or some other “communal” development.

We look for friendly people who will have time for you and will make you feel at home. You will be assigned a single or twin room, as booked, and will have your own study space and room to store your clothes and belongings. You will have free access to a shared bathroom and to the common areas of the home.

Please note that your host is providing you with a meal plan and that additional use of the kitchen and refrigerator is something you should discuss and agree with the host. When we assign you a family, we take into account your preferences (vegetarian diet, pets, no smokers, animals, etc.)

Host families provide accommodation and half board (breakfast and lunch) or full board for students under 16. If you would rather have dinner, perhaps you can reach an agreement with them, but in Spain the main meal is lunch and that is when everybody will gather together and you will get a better chance of practising your Spanish.

Under 16 year-olds (except in school groups) must stay in Host Families and must take the full-board option.

We ask that you try to understand and, above all, respect the customs, traditions and values of your host family. It is up to you to adapt your way of life to that of the family.
After all it is you who wants to experience the real Spanish way of life. You will need to be flexible and to give up a degree of your personal independence.
